Alright so it was brought up in officer chat the other night hat perhaps we should try and make the guild chat a little more accessible. The suggestion was that we should maybe take the route of most guilds and be able to talk to each other wherever your character might be in the world.
Mos' idea was to use the hearthstone route, which I'm sure most of you are familiar with. Those who aren't, it's a fairly simple concept where the hearthstone can be used to communicate with friends as well as send you home.
Pishnek suggested a different approach through wind-talking, which sounds interesting but could probably use some fleshing out.
Would just like to know what everyones thoughts are on this. Begin discussion ... now!

I definitely agree with the idea of making /gchat more accessible to all. Currently it is set up so that /gchat is an IC channel where we are at the Earthspear campground. I respect Huatar's ideas on this, I just find it tricky to imagine myself at the campgrounds to actively rp when at the time I may be somewhere completely different either rp'ing, questing etc.
My own personal experiences the idea of /gchat being loosely based on a "talkie" sort of imethod works well. I use the term "talkie" loosely - the idea is that all guild members are able to communicate audibly by some method. This works because it let's everyone be able to rp over /gchat even if they are in seperate zones or are busy with other tasks.
Its pretty easy to work with, if we decide to go this route then it'd just be a matter of deciding just HOW we will communicate across the miles. Guilds often use the "enchanted" hearthstone method, where your hearthstone have magical properties to work as a "walkie talkie" so to speak.
Pishnek has also suggested using the elements of wind so to speak to carry our voices across /gchat.
Think, discuss, and please give us your feedback!

I suggested wind-talk (as opposed to magical Hearthstone) because Taurens (like Night Elves) aren't a magical race by nature, nor by choice.
Wind-talk is a way of communication for characters from shamanistic culture (like Tauren) and it involves sending IC messages using the wind (Air element) to a desired person usually through /w or /g chats. I guess it would depend on the message's destination as to which channel to use (/w to one person, /g to a group).
I personally have some doubts about using Hearthstones at all, especially since they don't exist in some people's RP (like mine). Also, their teleport is very much a game-mechanics ability, so some people RP as if it doesn't exist (to be more realistic).
I hope there is more discussion on this.

This is very intriguing, and it was brought to my own attention that Guild Chat needed a face lift. We'll more than likely go through with Pishnek's idea.

Progress so far on deciding how to restructure /gchat? There was an idea that we would use objects (rings, necklaces/pendants) imbued by a Shaman in order to be able to use the elements (most likely Air) to communicate with each other over large distances. I feel it will boost our RP in the guild by much, though I still hope we'd have our characters meet often enough "in person" (other than once a week) and enjoy spending time IC while being able to see the other people's characters. If we are to implement this, I suggest we initialize it at a gathering/meeting, so that we will RP it all out and smoothly incorporate it into our characters. It would be a significant change of our guild's RP, so I think it deserves a careful implementation. I'm looking forward to having more RP opportunities!

I like the idea of wind talking. It seems to fit the tauren background. The hearthstone idea is interesting as well, but someone mentioned the whole magic thing. It doesn't have to be. That hearthstone could've been imbued by a shaman, and thus works no differently than any other object. So, either one gets my vote.

We're going to have a shaman imbue little totems for our tribe members to hold onto and use to communicate via the elements (The totems will be the kind of thing you would hang on your keychain IRL, that's how big they would be). It will be roleplayed out, but we need to find a suitable shaman to do it for us.

Hey guys! I'm beginning to pick up Owachi as a main (as opposed to Sebudai, which some of you may know), and she's pretty decent level shaman. I'd love to be the shaman who can do the job. I'm open to being conversed with IC if you'd like to get things ready for the day it happens.

This is an announcement that the Wind-Talk system is currently in operation! (thanks to Owachi) All that one has to do In-Character is to carve a small (key-chain size) totem for oneself (from any wood desired) and then wait until the spirits of the Air "activate" it. If you want to inquire about more details, then feel free ask your questions.
The system works basically as a walkie-talkie, though I imagine that when you speak it doesn't block the incoming speech. We discussed it a bit OOCly, so we agreed that when someone is wearing the totem on their body then he/she can hear what is said on the Wind-Talk; taking it off would be like turning it off for occasions when you may not want to be disturbed ICly (ie sleep).
Did I miss any more important details? Feel free to add anything or correct me in case I misunderstood something.
